MIHW 1999 Photos

These are the photos (prude version) of the 1999 third annual Mensans in Japan - Mensans in Hot Water (Onsen) SIG outing.

Nick Miller, SIG coordinator, editor and photographer.

Michael, Nick and Jim (l-r) at the Kanuma city fall festival.
This is a yatai (Shinto-related float) in the Imamiya Shrine in the Kanuma fall festival parade.
Jim and Michael (l-r) on the bus from Kinugawa onsen station to Meotobuchi.
Jim and Michael (l-r) standing on the bridge over looking the onsen.
This is a view of the men's wall. (Note: Women have a private dressing room and two private baths - men have none! There are two walls for men to leave their clothes and belongings after undressing).
Michael and Jim (l-r) preparing to enter the new Meotobuchi onsen day-visitors' building. (Note: a day visit costs 1,000 yen, while a night in the hotel is 20,000!)
Since I took the pictures, there are only two of me that are different... and those are getting in and out of the water. Here is one of me getting in. This is the second version, what I call the one for sick people (i.e. edited for the mentally ill who can not view reality).
Here is a shot of the four of us (Takehito, Jim, me and Michael, l-r) standing in the Daikokuten bath. (Note my traditional 'Japanese pose'.)
Here is a shot of the four of us (Takehito, Jim, me and Michael, l-r) standing in the Daikokuten bath. (Note my pointing out the cave with the um, er phallic symbol statute inside.)

I have been here many times, as recently as five months before this picture... and this building is brand new (and came as a shock!).
This is the famous salamander tempura. I always offer to buy it for my guests, yet I never try it... and I plan to keep it that way!
Here is a picture of Jim eating the salamander tempura.
Here is a picture of Michael asking which end to eat first, the head or the tail. Takehito informs him he should eat the head first... so it can not get away!
Here, Takehito is asking, "Who, me?"
But, Takehito does end up eating the salamander tempura after all.
Takehito finds a bonus in his... an egg!
Of course, the restaurant does have more - normal - food. A few of us had the ramen!
