PREMIERE ISSUE

 

Welcome to the first issue of our newsletter!  It's too early to say whether this is the first issue of  "MIJ"  (SIG), or of an "Emerging" Japan Mensa.  The next few months will tell our tale.

       In 1995, the former "Mensa Japan" was decertified for being no longer in touch with Mensa International headquarters in London.  After that a Mensa group was started hopes of deveoping a stronger, more enduring

Mensa in Japan.  The name" Mensans    in Japan" was taken to literally describe the group which tried again to start on the road to National group status, but unfortunately, until now, not enough volunteers came forward to actualize   the dream.  So, "Mensans in Japan," remained technically a SIG (Special Interest Group)," thought he "Special Interest," was never clearly defined.

     Many interested members had their hand in keeping the group afloat over the years.  Manny Sultan was the first to attemp

I saw this TV show called "One Chance"
(info at http://www.tbs.co.jp/onechance/) where contestants get a chance to pose
a quiz (logic based I think, though most
seemed to be wordplay questions, I don't
know if that's a requirement, my Japanese is terrible) to a panel of 'experts' (tv talents) in one of several formats.  If the talents can't come up
with an answer contestants win money (if they asked 1 person - 100,000 yen, 2 people
- 500,000, 3 people 10,000,000).t

SPRING EVENTS:

MAY 10th or 11th:

            A Tokyo meeting is planned, after which members will travel together to KAWAGOE CITY, about one hour to the north in Saitama for some of the best Kushikatsu this side of Mount Fuji.  Our host, recent new member, Matttew Johnson will guide us through the streets of thatxxx xxx xxx town  to se xxx xxxx before we tuck into his friend neighbor haunt for the kushi-katsu.

MAY 31st:

           1:00pm - Testing at Akasaka.     Please tell you friends who are interested!

           3-5:00pm - "What is Genius?"        A presentation by the author, journalist Kem Mori who interviewed at least one  of our MIJers in search of what makes a "genius."
